This street once called Prospect Avenue was originally marketed as a place that Midwesterners could spend the chilly winters. But by the turn of the twentieth century, a new business had hit town. The upstart movie industry, begun in the East by entrepreneurs like Universal’s Carl Laemmle, moved its operations to California, lured by the mild climates and varied scenery. Soon, Hollywood was the center of a booming business, and the great directors like Cecil B. DeMille became near legends around town. Stars flocked to clubs like the Brown Derby and the Trocadero, and if they were lucky, they’d have their hands and feet enshrined in the concrete outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre or have their star appear on the Boulevard's world famous Walk of Fame. Today, attractions on this magnet for tourists include the Guinness World of Records, the Hollywood Wax Museum, and the Capitol Records Tower (just north of Holllywood Boulevard on Vine).
