Website
Choose Chicago is a comprehensive website with a lot of great planning tools. They've got maps, and up-to-date event calendar, and even some free downloadable audio tours. Also, they've put their entire travel guide book on line, thanks to the reading technology of Nxtbook. Also, a less polished, but equally informational site is Chicago Traveler, which replicates many of the best features in the Choose Chicago site, without the glossy sheen of the former.

Once you’re in the city, you’ll find that Chicago’s El trains are tough to beat for getting around the Loop. There are seven different color-coded lines, and each heads into downtown and then joins the circle which gives the Loop its name. Most of the lines run 24 hours a day, but service is much more limited in the late night and early morning hours, If you are staying in Chicago for more than a day or two, you may want to consider purchasing a Visitor’s Pass, which gives you unlimited use of all trains and buses.

If you are a fan of either literature or architecture,
you’re definitely going to want to take the short drive west of Chicago to the suburb of Oak Park, Illinois. This upscale community was home to two of the last century's giants. First it was famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and base of operations for over twenty years. Just driving through the streets of Oak Park, we can see numerous examples of Wright’s handiwork, from houses that he designed on the sly while working for Louis Sullivan in the early days, to more mature examples of his artistry. Plus, you can visit the birthplace and childhood home of Oak Park's other favorite son, novelist Ernest Hemingway.
