Coronado is a community that visitors flock to for its beautiful beaches and quiet lifestyle, just across the bay from downtown San Diego. The wide sandy shore on the other side of the peninsula isn’t much for waves, but its quiet surf and clean, friendly atmosphere make it the perfect place for families and sweethearts to spend the day. Those who would prefer not to drive in the city have several choices for getting around town. Running throughout San Diego are many bus lines, which can reach most attractions in less than an hour. In addition, there’s a trolley system here in town, which is much more limited than the buses, but does go to many major attractions, including right up to the international border with Mexico. Back in San Diego, Old Town Trolley Tours is a private company that gives guided bus rides from attraction to attraction, and allows passengers to get on and off as often as they choose.

Just a few trolley stops from San Diego and we’re in Tijuana, a booming border city of around two million people, just twenty minutes from downtown San Diego. Probably the biggest draw for day-trippers here is the thriving Zono Rio, Tijuana’s ultramodern business and shopping district just a short walk from the border. Here there’s plenty to please both your wallet and your appetite, often at the same time. Also in Tijuana are two impressive bullrings, where some of the world’s finest matadors hold court from May to September. Those of us who like our thrills a little less intense may appreciate gaming choices like greyhound races, bingo, and a first class sports book, all of which are available here in Tijuana. If you’re planning to stay in Tijuana after dark, Avenida Revolucion is where you need to be, where the fun ranges from gritty to glitzy and back again. Back in daylight, Avenida Revolucion is a shopper’s paradise, where bargains abound in the many shops that line this sometimes chaotic thoroughfare. It all adds up to a great addition to your trip to San Diego, and it’s all right across the border!
