Tijuana is home to two impressive bullrings, where some of the world’s finest matadors hold court from May to September. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but just try to go to one of these events and not get swept up in the pageantry and tradition of it all. Tickets are available in San Diego and a tour leaves from downtown’s Santa Fe rail station. Visitors can take a morning tour and shop at Avenнda Revoluciуn before the fights begin, or they can take a later tour directly to the bullring.

Back in 1937, legendary crooner Bing Crosby, who owned some land around here, got together with some of his Hollywood buddies and formed the Del Mar Turf Club. Since then, the entertainment elite have been coming down to Del Mar to enjoy the sport of kings. Inside the gate is one of the most popular tracks on the west coast. On a typical day here at Del Mar, over ten million dollars is wagered, and there’s nothing quite like the thrill of seeing your horse cross the finish line in the money.

PETCO Park is the new home of the San Diego Padres. Nestled among some of downtown’s oldest buildings, this 46,000-seat stadium follows the trend of intimate urban ballparks that has been popular for the last decade or so. When it opened in 2004, PETCO Park had an added treat. The Park at the Park is a lovely grassy area just beyond the outfield fence, which allows fans the chance to pull up a lawn chair and watch the game for a reduced ticket price. There’s even a little diamond here for budding stars to have some fun before game time.
